The Islamic Republic of Iran, as a country with a strategic position, has consistently faced a multitude of transnational threats in the contemporary world. Adversaries have exploited these various dimensions to challenge the security of Iran. In this context, the present study aims to develop and propose a comprehensive model for transregional defense-security threat assessment in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The research employs a mixed-methods approach (quantitative and qualitative) and utilizes structural equation modeling via SmartPLS software. The statistical population includes academics, and military and governmental officials, among whom 100 individuals were selected through snowball sampling. The findings indicate that political threats have a significant impact on geographic, socio-cultural, economic, defense-security, and environmental threats. Consequently, political threats currently play a prominent role, as transregional actors use them as a basis for the emergence of other threats in the country. Failure to control political threats—primarily managed by the foreign policy apparatus—may lead to compounded effects on other areas, including the economy, culture, and defense-security sectors, resulting in substantial national vulnerabilities.
